Cute stationary. I'm a sucker for it. A pretty little notepad, paper with a floral border, you can't go wrong. You have to admit though, cute stationary is so much more fun to use than a simple old pen and paper, don't you agree?
That isn't only limited to pens, paper and other school supplies though. It includes invitations and other pieces needed for the perfect party. In this case, a sweet sixteen.
A friend of mine has a role play blog on Wordpress and as part of her plotline, her character would be celebrating her sweet sixteen. For this reason, knowing I'm an aspiring graphic designer, she approached me with the request to create her an invitation for the occasion. Obviously, I was more than happy to oblige.
The brief she gave me specified a few certain things, it had to be pink, girly but class and featuring her face claim Sasha Pieterse, also know as Alison from Pretty Little Liars.
So from that, I created the following invitation:
Pink? Check. Girly? Checky. Classy? Check.
I was very proud of the way in which the invitation turned out as I didn't really know the direction I was going in when I began making it, I just went with it.
I started with a damask pattern background that I found on Google images and edited the colouring to a pink overlay. I also added the double burned border to give the pattern an original twist and add some depth.
I then went on to fill a central rectangle in which which is where I planned to locate to the content of the post. As the block white rectangle lacked any dimension I darkened the border with a magenta colour to separate to shape more so from the damask background so it didn't blend too much.
Similar to the other people illustrations on my blog, Mimoza and Olly Murs, I edited Pieterse in the same way. I decided to do this so then the invitation was not only still appropriate for her blog but also linked well with my other graphics.
To complete the invitation, the text I was instructed to include was added in a script typography as well as Milly's signature and the invitation was complete.
Did you have a sweet sixteen party? What was it like?
I hope you like it!
